I am very pleased to welcome you and your child to Class 1, and to our class web page.

This is an exciting time for you and your child as they move from the EYFS curriculum on to the National Curriculum. We will ensure that the transition is as seamless as possible and most of all make sure that your child still has lots of fun whilst developing and learning new skills as they go through the year.

Home support

Your child will bring reading books home every week. We aim to changes this book every Tuesday and Friday. It is important that you listen to your child reading 3-4 times a week minimum and record this in their home diary. This will develop their fluency and stamina for reading. In Year 1, children are beginning to read longer books and can develop their skill by discussing the book afterwards. Things to discuss can include the characters, setting and main events. Please ensure your child brings their book bag into school every day. Also, each week there is a list of reading words for them to practise inside their diary which are based on sound that they have been introduced to in Phonics. Helping your child to practise these by listening to them read and spell these words.
