Our Intent

At Huncote Primary School, our curriculum is designed to give every child a rich and engaging learning experience that prepares them not just for academic success, but for life. We offer a broad, balanced, and relevant curriculum built around powerful enquiry questions that inspire curiosity, creativity, and a deep understanding of the world.

These questions are complex and discussion-worthy—perfect for encouraging structured, purposeful talk. They promote key traits such as empathy, resilience, and leadership, which require dialogue, debate, and thoughtful reflection. Planning for talk across the curriculum is therefore central to unlocking the depth and richness behind these questions. Children are encouraged to ask questions, explore big ideas, and challenge themselves without fear of making mistakes.

Our entire curriculum is underpinned by three core concepts: Understanding, Influencing, and Creating.

In order to do become Understanding, Influencing, and Creative individuals there are key concepts children need to learn – these are threaded throughout our curriculum.

Understanding – children explore and make sense of the world around them through curiosity – nurturing a natural desire to learn and explore, inquiry – learning to ask meaningful questions and investigate answers – and adaptability – being open to new information and willing to shift perspectives.

Influencing – children need to explore concepts such as change – recognising how actions and events lead to outcomes, empathy – appreciating others’ feelings and perspectives, power & leadership – understanding ethical decision-making and how to inspire others and culture – recognising how beliefs and practices shape behaviours.

Creating – to embrace creativity, children first need to develop problem-solving – using critical and creative thinking to overcome challenges and resilience – persisting through setbacks and refining ideas.

Our approach promotes essential life skills such as problem-solving and critical thinking and is underpinned by strong human values like respect, justice, and integrity. Oracy plays a central role in all we do—we believe every child has a voice that should be heard. We nurture confident communicators who learn through structured classroom discussion, enabling them to deepen their understanding and express themselves clearly.

At Huncote, we prepare children not only to achieve well but to thrive in modern life, with the skills, values, and understanding to follow their dreams and make a positive contribution to the world.
